Your Landlord Asked for a COI. What Is It? 📄

If you're signing a commercial lease or onboarding a new vendor, you'll likely be asked to provide a Certificate of Insurance (COI).

A Certificate of Insurance provides a snapshot of your business insurance information, such as:

✓ Insurance carrier

✓ Policy period

✓ Types of coverage

✓ Policy limits

But remember:

A COI is NOT the insurance policy itself. It is simply proof of coverage at a specific point in time.

Being listed on a COI does NOT automatically make someone an Additional Insured without the proper endorsement.

Key Takeaway: When your landlord or client sends insurance requirements, have your insurance agent review the complete requirements before signing!
